Boutique Hotel in Kalkan: How to Choose Where You Stay
Kalkan is not a resort strip. It is a hillside town above a small harbour, and where you sleep changes the whole holiday — how far you walk to dinner, whether you wake up to sea or to a wall, and how you get to the water. Before you compare prices, it helps to understand how the town is laid out.
This page explains where to stay in Kalkan, what a boutique hotel here actually means, and how True Blue fits in. We run one 34-room property on Begonvil Street, so treat this as an honest orientation from people who live in it — not a directory.
Where to stay in Kalkan: the four areas
Kalkan spreads up a steep slope. Roughly four zones matter when you book.
Old Town (Kalkan Merkez). The lanes behind the harbour: bougainvillea, stone houses, rooftop restaurants. Everything is walkable and everything is uphill. Best if you want to step out of the door into dinner. Not ideal if stairs are a problem.
Above the Old Town. The band of small hotels looking down over the bay — this is where the sea views live. You keep the harbour within a 5–10 minute walk downhill and gain a view you actually sit in. True Blue is in this band.
Kalamar Bay. West of town, quieter, more villa territory. Lovely, but you will use a car or dolmuş for most meals.
Kışla and the eastern slopes. Newer building, larger apartments, further from the centre. Good value for families who plan to drive.
If you are weighing things to do in Kalkan before you choose, note that most boat trips, restaurants and the market all start from the harbour — proximity to it is worth more than an extra square metre of room.
What “boutique hotel” means in Kalkan
Kalkan has very few large hotels. Building rules and the terrain keep properties small, so the market is mostly boutique hotels, apartments and villas. In practice you are choosing between three formats:
| Format | Typical size | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Boutique hotel | 15–40 rooms | Couples, short stays, people who want service and breakfast |
| Residence / apartment | 50–75 m² | Families, longer stays, self-catering |
| Villa | Whole house + pool | Groups, privacy, a week or more |
A boutique hotel in Kalkan is not a smaller version of a big resort. There is no entertainment programme and no buffet queue. What you get instead is a host who knows which boat captain to call and remembers how you take your coffee.
True Blue offers all three formats on one site, which is unusual here: four suites, five residences and a private villa.
About “Kalkan hotels on the beach”
This is the single most common misunderstanding, so it deserves a straight answer.
So the right question is not “is the hotel on the beach” but “which beach club does it use, and how do I get there”. True Blue guests use a partner beach club, and the concierge arranges the transfer. Patara’s long sand beach and Kaputaş are a short drive if you want actual sand.
If a listing tells you it is beachfront in Kalkan, check the map before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Is True Blue a 5-star hotel?
No — it is officially rated 4 stars. Kalkan has very few properties above that, because the star system rewards facilities like conference rooms and multiple restaurants that small hillside hotels do not have. Guest ratings are a better guide here: ours average 4.9 out of 5.
How far is the hotel from the sea?
A few minutes’ walk downhill to the harbour and the beach clubs. Kalkan has no sandy beach in the centre; swimming is from platforms in deep water. Patara and Kaputaş beaches are a short drive.
Is Kalkan suitable for families with children?
Yes, particularly in the residences, which have separate bedrooms and a kitchen. Be aware that the town is steep and cobbled — a pushchair is hard work in the Old Town.
When is the best time to visit Kalkan?
May–June and September–October give warm sea and manageable heat. July and August are hot and busy, and rooms with a sea view book out first.
Do you have parking?
Yes. Kalkan’s centre is difficult to park in, so this matters more than most people expect when they book.
